Amazon Is Hiring 300,000+ for the 2026 Holidays: Pay, Healthcare and How to Apply
NATIONWIDE — Amazon said on October 20 that it is hiring more than 300,000 people across its U.S. operations network for the 2026 holiday season, its first increase in holiday hiring in three years. The bigger news for anyone who needs coverage: starting January 1, 2027, Amazon seasonal workers who put in at least 30 hours a week get the company's healthcare plans.
Amazon is filling more than 300,000 seasonal, part-time and full-time operations jobs, with seasonal pay averaging $20 an hour and new postings going up every week through December.

π₯ What Amazon Announced
In a post on its company news site, Amazon said it is hiring over 300,000 people for seasonal, part-time and full-time roles across its U.S. core operations network. That is the warehouse side of the company: the buildings where orders are picked, packed, sorted and handed off for delivery. The count covers those operations roles, not corporate jobs.
The count is a real step up. Amazon set its holiday hiring target at 250,000 in each of the previous three years, Reuters reported, so this year's figure is about 20% higher. It lands in a season when several big employers have announced flat or smaller plans. UPS said it would hire more than 100,000 seasonal workers, in line with past years, and DICK'S Sporting Goods' seasonal count for its own stores came in below its 2025 number.
Amazon also said new postings go up weekly from October through December, and that its seasonal roles "can fill quickly." If you saw nothing near you last week, check again.
π΅ What Amazon Holiday Jobs Pay
Amazon published three pay figures, and they measure different things:
- Seasonal workers: an average of $20 an hour. That is an average, so some seasonal postings will list less and some more, depending on the building, the shift and the local market.
- Full-time core operations: a minimum starting wage of $20 an hour, a floor Amazon announced in September.
- Across core operations: average pay of nearly $24 an hour, and average total compensation above $32 an hour once benefits are counted, by the company's math.
For a market comparison, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a national median of $18.38 an hour for hand laborers and material movers in May 2025, the occupation group that covers most warehouse work. A median is the midpoint: half of workers in that group earned less. Amazon's stated seasonal average of $20 is above that, though an average and a median are different measures, and your state and city minimum wage, and the specific building, still decide what your posting pays. Amazon's own hiring pages say night and early-morning shifts can pay more per hour, so compare shifts before you pick one.
π©Ί The New Part: Healthcare for Seasonal Workers
Amazon says seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours a week will be eligible for the same healthcare coverage its regular full-time employees get, with plans starting at $5 a week and $5 copays.
The timing matters for this season. The benefit starts January 1, 2027. If you are hired before then, coverage begins on January 1, not on your first day in November. If you are hired on or after January 1, coverage starts on day one. In practice, a holiday hire only benefits if the job continues into January at 30 or more hours a week, so ask about expected hours and end dates during onboarding.
Amazon also listed perks that apply to its workforce more broadly: a 10% discount on eligible groceries and essentials online, a 20% discount in Whole Foods Market stores, free Prime, 401(k) with a company match, and Career Choice prepaid tuition of up to $5,250 a year. Each has its own eligibility rules, so confirm which ones apply to a seasonal role before you count on them.
β οΈ Read This Before You Apply
Seasonal means seasonal. Unless your offer says part-time or full-time, plan on the job ending after the holiday rush. Amazon says seasonal employees have the chance to move into full-time roles, but it did not say how many do.
The work is physical. Expect long stretches on your feet, repetitive lifting and walking, and extra hours around Black Friday, November 27, and the weeks before Christmas. Each posting lists its own age, screening and physical requirements, so read them before you pick a shift.
Apply only through Amazon's own hiring site or its text-alert number. A text or social post offering a guaranteed Amazon job for a fee is a scam.
π§ How to Turn a Holiday Job Into a Real One
The workers who stay are usually the ones who show up for every shift through the post-holiday returns surge in late December and January, when seasonal staff thin out. Pick up voluntary extra time when it is offered, learn a second station, and tell your area manager early that you want to stay on. If you land a 30-hour-plus schedule that carries into January, the new healthcare benefit gives you a concrete reason to stick it out.
