Holiday Hiring Days 2026: Bass Pro, Macy's and Who Else Is Staffing Up

NATIONWIDE — The holiday hiring calendar finally has dates on it. Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's open every store for walk-in interviews on October 7 and 8, and Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury run nationwide hiring days on October 22 and November 19. If you want a seasonal job without waiting on an online application, those are the days to circle.

Two national retailers have set in-store holiday hiring days for October and November 2026, and every job they are filling is seasonal unless the posting says otherwise.

πŸ“… The Holiday Hiring Days on the Calendar

Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's: October 7 and 8. The outdoor retailer's careers page lists a national hiring event at all of its U.S. and Canadian locations, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. It is hiring seasonal, full-time and part-time Outfitters, its name for store associates. The company tells candidates to apply in advance at careers.basspro.com and then come to the store for an on-site interview, and says walk-ins are welcome. Bass Pro has not published a 2026 headcount.

Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury: October 22 and November 19. Macy's, Inc. announced its holiday hiring on September 24 with three nationwide hiring events at every store across its three banners and at select supply chain locations. The first ran September 24 with on-the-spot interviews and offers. The two still ahead are Thursday, October 22 and Thursday, November 19. The company says event times vary by location, so check with your store before you go. Store openings are part-time; the supply chain sites, which the company names as Martinsburg, West Virginia and North Jackson, Ohio, have full- and part-time roles. Apply at macysJOBS.com, bloomingdalesJOBS.com or bluemercuryJOBS.com. Macy's did not give a headcount.

πŸ”₯ Who Else Has Announced for 2026

Michaels said on September 10 that it plans to hire more than 10,000 seasonal team members across its U.S. and Canadian stores. Its national hiring day was September 12 and has passed, but applications stay open at careers.michaels.com. The company says nearly half of last season's seasonal in-store positions converted to regular roles.

Kohl's says on its seasonal careers page that it is adding 2026 seasonal openings, with more coming, for retail sales associates in stores and material handlers in distribution. It has not posted a headcount or hiring day.

Still quiet. As of October 1 we found no 2026 seasonal headcount from Amazon, Target, UPS or Walmart. Amazon announced its 2025 number on October 13 last year, so the next two weeks are worth watching. Target's careers site is already listing seasonal store roles. Challenger, Gray & Christmas, the outplacement firm, forecast on September 23 that retail seasonal hiring this year will come in around 450,000, below last year, as retailers lean on existing staff and automation before adding new workers. That is a forecast, not a count, but it points the same way: fewer seasonal slots, filled earlier.

πŸ’΅ What the Holiday Hiring Days Pay and Include

None of these retailers published a single seasonal pay rate, and we are not going to guess one. Here is what each has said in its own words:

  • Macy's, Inc.: every posting shows its pay range. Eligible hires get medical, dental and vision coverage from day one, a 401(k), early access to earned wages and an employee discount.
  • Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's: competitive wages, holiday and vacation pay, healthcare plans for eligible Outfitters and merchandise discounts of up to 50 percent.
  • Michaels: a 30 percent discount for all team members and flexible scheduling.
  • Kohl's: weekly pay, flexible scheduling and a 15 percent associate discount.

Read the range on the posting before the interview. That way you know whether the job beats what you could get stocking shelves or picking orders nearby.

⚠️ Read This Before You Walk In

Seasonal means seasonal. Most of these jobs end after the holidays, and the companies say staying on is possible, not promised. Store schedules lean on nights and weekends from Thanksgiving through New Year's, so expect to be asked about that. Supply chain roles mean long shifts on your feet and lifting.

Applying online before the event is the strongest move. Both retailers ask for it, and it means your interview starts from a finished application instead of a clipboard. Bring a photo ID, know your availability through early January, and dress one step up from the store's own dress code.

One more caution: real retailers never charge you to apply or ask for bank details before an offer. If a "Macy's hiring event" text or post asks for a fee, it is a scam. Apply through the company's own careers site.

🧭 How to Turn a Holiday Job Into a Permanent One

Tell the hiring manager on day one that you want to stay after January. Take shifts in the weeks after Christmas, when returns pile up and many seasonal workers leave. Learn a second area, like the register, the stockroom or online-order pickup, so you are useful wherever the store is short. Michaels' conversion figure shows it happens often enough to plan for.
